BIOGRAPHY

EARLY LIFE

Reshad Jones was born on February 25, 1988 in Atlanta, Georgia, in a quaint little town on the northwest suburb of Atlanta. Being raised by his grandparents he had utmost love and admiration for his elders. As with most young men growing up, the peer pressures and everyday life of drugs, guns and violence were never too far from every corner. Fortunately for Reshad, the doors of the Baptist Church of Mount Ephraimare were always wide open to him and it is within this sanctuary he found a place of peace and solace, which kept him on the right path. At a tender age, he had a fond love for sports of which he most favoured baseball, he used this as an avenue for positivity and strength. Reshad channeled the obstacles that came his way through his passion for sports this synergy led him to be the best he could be with his focal point being a career in football.

HIGH SCHOOL & COLLEGE

During his tenure at Booker T Washington High School, Jones made the Varsity team, his 10th grade year. His athleticism caught the eye of the coaches and it was inevitable that Reshad would play, whether as a receiver, running back or safety. Unfortuntely for Reshad he was excluded from the team due to absences from workouts and behavioral problems in the classroom. Soon afterwards Reshad Jones returned to the field with the mentorship of Eric Reese, one of the coaches of the team, who became a close friend and confidant. During his high school career he earned AAAA All-State and Defensive Player of the Year honors from the Atlanta Journal-Constitution and the Georgia Sports Writers Association as a senior. Reshad was the no. 1 safety in the country according to PrepStar 100 and Rivals Top 100. Jones was also the Fox Sports Net South Countdown to Signing Day All-South First Team defensive back.

Reshad Jones decided to continue his football journey in his home state and played college football at the University of Georigia. Jones was a three-year letterman and two-year starter at Georgia. As a sophomore, Reshad was named second-team Sophomore All-American and second-team All-SEC honors while winning the team’s Most Improved Defensive Back Award. Jones repeated the feature as a junior and was named as a second-team All-SEC selection and earned the team’s Most Improved Player Award for defense. The stand out safety became the eighth player since statistics were kept in 1950 to lead the team in interceptions in consecutive seasons. Reshad finished his college career playing in 39 games with 27 starts and recording career totals of 206 tackles (129 solos), including 10 stops for losses. Jones batted away 13 passes and intercepted 11 others for 174 yards. With such numbers and such a pedigree, the player decides to report to the draft in 2010, but not without having thoughts about it the previous year. Convinced by Richt to stay in college one more year to gain even more experience and leadership, he also decided to stay to satisfy the desire of his grandparents to see him get that degree in Economics.

PROFESSIONAL

Jones was selected by the Miami Dolphins in the fifth round (163rd overall) of the 2010 NFL Draft. He was also the leader in interceptions for Dolphins' defense in that season. On December 6, 2015, Reshad Jones became the 1st player in Miami Dolphins history to have over 100 tackles, 4 interceptions and 2 sacks in a single season. After the 2015 Season, Jones became the first safety in NFL history to record 125+ tackles and 5 interceptions. He was named to the 2016 Pro Bowl on January 24, 2016. During the off season Reshad coaches a little league baseball team in the neighborhood and he is heavily involved with the Above .500 foundation.
